The Chinese authorities plan to set up a center to simulate the conditions of Mars settlements in northwest China's Qinghai Province.China Daily reported Tuesday (September 5th), citing the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The total project price is estimated at 400 million yuan, equivalent to about 60 million dollars. Its purpose is to monitor and analyze the lives of Mars settlers coming from the planet. It is also planned to establish a tourist area adjacent to the center, in order to make up for the expenses necessary for its construction.The center is a unique base that will be used for scientific research and eco-tourism at the same time, said Lu Siao Jun, head of the Lunar and Remote Space Research Department of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.Chinese experts plan to deploy housing units and other facilities that mimic the conditions of the Martian settlements in the Tsidam tectonic crest northwest of the Tibetan plateau.
