The newly discovered asteroid RC 2018 crosses day Sunday 09/09/2018 near the ground
On Sunday, the asteroid 2018 RC will fly from close to half of the average distance from the moon.
The astronomical assembly in Jeddah said the asteroid 2018 RC is large, with a width of 32 to 71 meters and will reach a minimum distance of 220,000 km at 0000 GMT.
The asteroid 2018 RC was discovered on Sept. 3 through the "Atlas" Sky Observatory project in Hawaii, and before it occurs at the nearest point of the Earth, the asteroid will be visible through medium and large telescopes. It will appear as a light point of brightness (+12) Stars, which means that it will be very dim and invisible to the naked eye.
Asteroids were rocky bodies of debris that formed our solar system about 4.5 billion years ago, and millions of them are thought to exist, most of them in a belt between Mars and Jupiter orbits.
Historically, a 40-meter-long rock caused the biggest collision in recent history, when it exploded in the sky of Tongoska (Siberia-Russia) in 1908.
In 2013, a 20-meter asteroid exploded in the atmosphere above the city of Chelyabinsk in central Russia, freeing up about 30 atomic bombs, such as those I met in Hiroshima. The resulting shock wave destroyed the windows of some 5,000 buildings and injured more than 1,200 people .
Astronomers take advantage of such opportunities to learn more about asteroids, such as the nature of their composition. Objects, such as the time machine, retain many mysteries of the solar system, and can tell us more about the origin of the planet. To detect and trace NEOs and to assess our ability to respond together to any real threat to any asteroid in the future.
